Do Abuja People Value Sleep Enough?
We Hit the Streets to Find Out.
At Taewinny Beddings, we’ve always believed that sleep is more than rest, it’s self-care, recovery, and a quiet form of luxury. But we started to wonder: Do people in Abuja actually value sleep the way they should?
So, we took it beyond our cozy bedrooms and out onto the streets to ask real people real questions about how they sleep. And what we discovered says a lot about city life in Nigeria, especially when you compare Abuja to the ever-busy Lagos.
Abuja vs Lagos
Two Cities, One Common Struggle
If you’ve ever lived in both cities, you’ll agree: Lagos never sleeps. Between traffic jams, early morning hustles, and constant noise, sleep in Lagos often feels like a rare privilege. Abuja, on the other hand, wears a calmer face, wide roads, quieter nights, and a slower pace.
You’d think that means Abuja residents sleep better, right?
Surprisingly, not always.
When we hit the streets of Abuja, we found that while the city may move slower than Lagos, the people still carry the same restlessness. Many admitted they could sleep better but don’t, not because of chaos, but because of mindset. In Lagos, people lose sleep to the hustle. In Abuja, people lose sleep to overthinking, planning, or late-night screen time.
So in the end, both cities share the same struggle, just dressed differently.
The Hustle Culture Runs Deep
From the young professionals in Maitama to students in Asokoro, almost everyone we met had a reason for cutting their sleep short.
Some said, “There’s too much to do.” Others laughed, “I’ll sleep when I’m rich.”
It’s the same story we’ve heard in Lagos, just in a softer tone. The truth is, hustle culture has made many people feel guilty for resting, as though sleep is a sign of laziness instead of strength.
But we disagree.
At Taewinny, we believe sleep fuels the hustle. You perform better, think clearer, and create more when your mind and body are well-rested.
What We Learned on the Streets
What stood out most from our Abuja conversations was that everyone wants better sleep, they just don’t always make time for it.
Some described their dream sleep setup: a well-aired room, soft pillows, and a duvet that feels like a gentle hug. Others confessed that they haven’t changed their bedding in years.
It reminded us that while good sleep starts with the right mindset, it’s also about creating an environment that welcomes rest, your bed, your sheets, your pillow.
The Taewinny Takeaway
Whether in Lagos or Abuja, one thing is clear: Nigerians are hardworking people, but rest is often the first thing we sacrifice. We chase success without realizing that sleep is part of the journey not a distraction from it.
So tonight, wherever you are reading this from Lagos traffic or Abuja quiet, pause for a moment. Switch off your phone. Let your mind slow down. Slide into clean sheets that smell fresh and familiar.
Because at the end of the day, sleep isn’t a luxury it’s your reset.
And at Taewinny, we’re here to make it beautiful.
