What Keeps Me Busy? Healing Sick Spaces, One Patient at a Time

Different Clients, Different Diagnoses. Notes from the Design Doctor

If you’ve ever worked in the creative industry — especially in interior design — you’ll agree with me that every client comes with their own diagnosis.

As the Design Doctor, my job is to prescribe according to the space, the sickness, and the healing process.

Some spaces need a full detox, some just need therapy — and a few need emergency surgery! 😅

But let’s talk about what happens when you book a consultation session with me.

Consultation 101 — The Doctor Is In

A consultation with me is not your regular “I just want to paint my walls” session.

Oh no. We go deeper.

We talk about how your space feels, how it functions, and how you want it to speak.

Some clients walk in overwhelmed and confused, others come ready with Pinterest boards longer than my shopping list.

Either way, they leave knowing exactly what their space needs — and sometimes, what they need too.

Different diagnoses, different treatments.

That’s why I charge differently — because every project has its own complexity, time frame, and prescription plan.

Now Let’s Talk About the “Nigerian Factor”

Unfortunately, I live in a country where services are expected to be free.

Nigeria, we need to talk! 😅

People will say, “Just help me look at the space, you’re my friend,” forgetting that design is not magic — it’s work.

But we keep pushing.

Because for every 90 “no’s,” there’s always that 10 “yes” that reminds you why you started.

And those yeses? They make all the difference.

Moments That Make It Worth It

One of my favorite parts of this job is when clients visit our Experience Center for consultations.

Seeing their faces light up as they touch fabrics, smell the diffusers, and picture their dream space coming alive — that’s the healing I live for.

It’s the moment they realize that interior design isn’t luxury — it’s self-care.

Work, Work, and More Work

My life is honestly pretty simple.

It’s either I’m working… or I’m working.

Rest, to me, is just another form of work — maybe a different kind, but still work.

If I’m not physically working, I’m mentally working.

That’s the curse and blessing of passion — it never really switches off.

People often ask, “How do you cope in a relationship with such a busy schedule?”

And my answer is always the same — when the time comes, it’ll answer itself.

Right now, we’re still building, growing, expanding, and trusting God to keep making this dream real.

So, When They Ask…

So when I get asked questions like,

“What keeps you busy?” —

Here you go.

My life as a Design Doctor:

Different patients every day.

Online and offline.

Spaces to heal, stories to tell, designs to create.

We keep moving — one space, one dream, one healing at a time.

Final Prescription

If you’re a creative or business owner, don’t let the “free service” culture discourage you.

Keep showing up, keep learning, keep creating.

Because healing takes time — and sometimes, even the Design Doctor needs to remind herself of that.

The dream is growing, one client, one diagnosis, one healed space at a time.
